Jandrew Charles came third in
his lightweight class at the Scone Beef Bonanza carcase competition
this weekend with 85.97 points (Yay!). For more, go to
www.beefbonanza.org.au where the results will be loaded up.
In comparison to other breeds, Charles performed well managing to just
outpoint the best Angus carcase (85.947 points) and the best Murray
Grey carcase (81.135 points). The best Limousin/Limousin cross carcase
scored 89.014 points and was the highest scoring carcase at Scone.
Charles and his mate Roman were the first belties to be entered into
Scone. There was no purebred classes for belties so Charles was up
against the trade steers. A lot of thanks to Merv Presland and the kids at Chifley College,
Shalvey for doing what they do best. Merv and his brood don't ever seem
to let the breed down.

January 2008 :
Sydney Royal Easter Show two Belted Galloway Studs promoted the breed by winning the following:
Champion Light Weight Steer - exhibited by Merv & Beth Presland 360 kg to 380 kg
Stan Hill Trophy - Belted Galloways 2nd Place - 258.3 points
The Champion light weight Steer together with 2 of Peter Kopman's Belted Galloway steers formed the team to represent the Belted Galloways in the Stan Hill Trophy.
Merv & Beth Presland's steer scored 89.9 points while Peter Kopman's steers scored 81.9 and 86.5 points.
Peter Kopman's steers were prepared by Chifley College Shalvey Campus and Oakhill College.
This weeks Land newspaper should have the full list. It's one thing to show Belted Galloways at Royal Shows but to win with Belted Galloway steers against the big breeds in the open steer section at such a prestigious show is quite an achievement.
Congratulations
Merv, Beth and Peter
